Digital signal

Postby somers23 on Sat May 03, 2008 6:01 pm

When cable finally converts to a digital signal, will this make an antenna signal obsolete because it currentiy runs on an analog signal? Or am I totally wrong here? I'm looking to purchase an antenna for the free to air HD channels. Will I be alright, when they switch in a year or is it a waste of money? I could use some suggestions on what type of antenna to buy.
I live in Acton, Ontario. Any info would much appreciated!
Thanks
Scott

somers23,

it may be possible that I don’t understand your terminology, but, “Cable” is not going to change anything! Could you have meant the General (free) over the air Antenna Reception ?

If I’m right here, and considering your location, you would be WELL advised to purchase a good UHF Antenna! I’m sure it would provide you with numerous free Digital and HD programming, IF you have the proper equipment to receive that.

The/our older TV. VCR, and recorders for Analog (NTSC) programming, are the ones (which will be in Feb 2009) effected. If you wish to continue to use them, there are DtA Boxes (Digital to Analog Converters) which will (in a very limited way) permit you to continue to use that older equipment.

Many of your questions about your choice of Antenna, a DTV Box and other accessories can be answered in the FAQ (top of screen this page) and may other very informative topics, which can also be found in other parts of this forum.

By the way, WELCOME to the Site, and….

Have a good Day ! :)
