Des Moines Iowa Area, Antenna Advice

Postby kyotadog on Tue Dec 22, 2009 11:29 am

Hello,

I want to scrap Cable  , and go with an antenna  . Would appreciate any and all advice.

I live in the 50138 area.
Trees to the north side of my house which is two story.
Currently I have just one TV, but may use 2-3 in the future
Current HDTV is Samsung LN32A450

Thanks

You appear to be in a bit of a hollow, which is unusual for your part of the country: because most of the Des Moines stations are on VHF, including WOI-DT, which operates on channel 5, you will need a deep-fringe all-channel antenna mounted on your roof along with a preamplifier. I would suggest a Channel Master Crossfire 3671B or a Winegard HD8200U antenna along wih a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier. All of the stations that you have available to you come from Des Moines, so you shouldn't need a rotator for your antenna, but you will need to aim it at 325 degrees as measured by your compass. Higher is better, so get as much altitude as you possibly can.
