Wanted to post up my experience after using this board as a resource to select a digital antenna for my house. I selected the DB4 by AntennasDirect - Here's my $0.02.......
I live in Cypress, Texas (77429) - Home is located near the intersection of Barker Cypress and Jarvis off HWY 290.
I've been looking for an antenna to supplement my cable service. After seeing the AntennasDirect DB4 being used in a store near me, I decided to try it. Paid under $60 for mine.
I had my house prewired when it was constructed for an antenna in addition to the builder installed "cable". The "antenna" is run to my second story attic - probably around 100 feet long. Installed the antenna (DB4) in the attic away from the AC/heater/water heater. I am NOT using an inline amplifer. The TV I am using to receive the signal is made by Samsung (LCD TV) with a built in HD tuner.
Using the "online" locators, I am between 28 and 30 miles from the transmitters. The terrain in the area is flat and level. I also used a compass to help point my antenna towards the transmitters.
In short, the reception is EXCELLENT - even being installed INSIDE the attic. I can receive ALL the stations in the "yellow" range as well as one station in the "green" range and one in the "violet" range (KBTX from Waco). When I check the signal strength using the TV, I get a very strong signal with all but two of the stations (which were in the middle range). In all, I receive 13 HD channels and 32 standard def channels. Not bad for an antenna under $60.
The HD stations are crisp and clear - ZERO complaints. I would highly recommend this antenna if your conditions are similar to mine. It works.
