combining two UHF antennas?

Postby k9dobe on Sat Nov 21, 2009 11:53 am

Hello, I live in area code 42503 in KY. near Burnside, KY near the lake, not the best place to live for acquiring or local stations in Lexington, Ky. I have a tower that is 42' in the air + the mast out of the top that gives me a total height of 52'. I also have a rotor installed on it. I have tried a CM4228HD with some success but had signal loss at times, never had more than 3 bars out of 10 in strength for any stations in Lexington. I then took the CM4228HD down and put up a new 91-XG and the results are pretty much the same. I also have the much needed CM preamp 7777 that with out it, I get nothing. My question is this; if I put both UHF antennas up can they be matched or paired together by cable length from each antenna to a splitter then to the amp? Would it not draw in a stronger signal? What would be a better solution, my cable is new RG6 and I have cut the length down to 65'. :?:

Aiming 2 different types of antennas is the same direction is questionable: if you get it absolutely right, it may improve your reception, but you run the risk of damaging your existing reception if you get it wrong. To do it right, get an high quality, low input loss splitter-combiner, use two EXACT lengths of cable to connect the antennas, and make sure that the antennas are mounted at least 4' apart on the tower. There are no guarantees of success, however.
