Combine HDTV and local cable signals

Postby EJ11 on Mon Sep 28, 2009 3:31 pm

I have a HDTV antenna and two-way splitter on the roof, two cable runs from the roof to two TVs. The HDTV reception wasn't that good so I added a 10db amplifier at the end of the cable beside the TV and I'm getting 26 off-air channels in Toronto, works great. However, I only have one coaxial cable connector on my TV. I also have local cable from Rogers Communications. I have no cable box just a coaxial cable. I fed the coaxial cable from the cable feed and the other cable from the HDTV amplifier into a cheap combiner and the HDTV channels no longer work. It could be low HDTV signal but that's unlikely. Maybe the HDTV signals are interfering with the rogers cable signals? What's going on? Can anyone recommend a combiner for cable and HGTV signals, maybe combined with the HDTV amplifier? Do I have to buy an A/B switch and manually change feeds to isolate the two? If so, where to I find one??
I'm lost. Thanks. Eric

yes; you'll need an A/B switch; Check with THE Source: they have them. It's catalog #1501232
