Color Coding Question

Postby asolarantenna on Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:51 pm

Hi,
Most of the channels I can get require a yellow UHF antenna per antennaweb. This site recommends a Antennaesdirect V10. Can one antenna do more than one color, say yellow & violet?

I have a Polaroid 32 FXM-3211c HD-LCD TV/DVD Combo with HD ATSC tuner in the master bedroom and a Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 800 front projector in the theater room. There are also 4 smaller 13" or so Polaroid TVs int he game room and 1 13" Polaroaid in the master bath. The only TVs at this point that get used regularly are the Epson & the 32" Polaroid. Up to now we have subscribed to the whole house DirecTV DVR service which is really cool. We can record on the DVR in the master bedroom and watch the show in the theater room on the 108" screen.

But, I am interested in droppign DirecTV and saving those $'s. However, I find this whoel OTA issue very confusing. Can you help me with a step by step guide to getting OTA channels? Here is the url for the one antenna site: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapp ... 31d21c38e3

I live in an area directly below the TV towers in my city. All but a few towers are between 105 - 109 compass heading and range 2.3 - 2.5 miles, as the crow flies. There is no obstruction between my proposed antenna location and the towers. I currently ha 2-way radio internet which is fantastic as we point directly at the tower where the signal comes from.

But, what antenna do I need? The V10? Will that pick up both VHF & UHF, or do I need a combiner? Can I use my existing a/v distribution box to send the signal to the multiple TVs, of which all will be used at some point, or do I need to get an amplified distribution box? Help! Thanks!

The V10 is fine. Also suitable would be the HBU22, 7694, or the new ClearStream 2 Complete.

Yes, you can use your existing cable distribution wiring. There should be no need for any amplification.

Ok, I picked the Clearstream 2 antenna and J-mount up at Best Buy last night for $15 plus tax, for a total of $113. I had a bunch of RG6 coax in the garage from an unused DirecTV installation kit ao last night we tried the antenna in the bedroom with a short piece of that coax. It worked good, with only a few channels experiencing the "stop motion pixelation" that you get in a satellite signal when there is weather. This morning I connected the antenna to the lot longer piece of coax I had in that install kit and moved the antenna outside to the approximate location it would be mounted permanently and the pixelation went away.

What I find interesting is when I get to channel 32-1 it all of a suddens jumps back to 17-1..it is the same programming but I cannot stop it from doig that. If I want to go to the few channels above 32-1 I have to go to channel 2-1 and go backwards. Anyone know of why that occurs?

Here are the channels I get:
2-1 KASA-DT Fox
2-2 CoolTV
4-1 KOBDT1
4-2 KOB-DT2
5-1 KNME-DT
5-2 V-ME Spanish language
7-1 KOAT-DT
7-2 KOAT-ET Spanish language
13-1 KRQE-DT
17-1 also KAZQ 32-1
17-2 GOD TV
17-3 also KAZQ 32-3
17-4
19-1 KWBQ
30-1 KYNM
30-2 Tuff TV
30-3 KCHF-DT
30-4 blank/black screen
30-730 Audio only AM 730
32-1 jumps back to 17-1
36-1
36-2 Spanish language
38

So, next questions: 2) if I take this Clearstream 2 back to Best Buy within the next 30 days and change antennas to one of the originally suggested antennas for my location, an AntennaDirect V10 or a Antennacraft HBU22 or a Winegard HD7694P, will I get additional channels? Also, a local Radio Shack has the following antennas in stock: an HBU55 for $129.95, an Antennacraft C490 for $99.95, and an Antennacraft HD1200 for $110.99. Those antennas are massive..very long and wide. My wife says she does not want something that huge where I had planned on putting it so if I went with one of those I would need to find another spot on the property. #3) Would the massive size get me more channels to be worth the hassle of going to a new location? and, 4) Radio Shack has a round omni-directional antenna #15-1634 on clearance for $19.95 That is almost $100 less than the Clearstream 2 I just bought so would I get the same channels & quality for less if I take the Clearstream back? The final question is...with all my TV''s will a amplifier bee needed with the Clearstream 2?

Ok, the next step is to tying the Clearstream 2 into the whole house a/v system via the distribution box. I am also going to make the Cat5 wiring in the masterbedroom active to see if I can get Internet there, connect the PC to the TV, and use Hulu or Netflix!

Thanks for the help. This is amazing!
