Coaxial Cable Question

Hi-

I'm presently using the High Definition Receiver from DirectTV.

I want to get over to using an antenna for OTA reception. I purchased antenna and used the pre-existing DTV coaxial cable to connect it over to my TV. It didn't work. I've come to the conclusion that I probably used the wrong antenna and will be returning it. I had purchased a Winegard GS-2200 and while that is good, I'm thinking I should have purchased the Winegard HD8200U as recommended by this site since I am 30+ miles away from the towers and in a violet area.

However, I wanted to make sure that it maybe wasn't the coaxial cable itself. Is using the same cable between DTV and the OTA ok? Should I have used different cable?
