Coat hanger antenna

Hello all, when looking at plans for a 4bay bow-tie antenna all the designs suggest 7" dipoles, my calculations make it appear that 10" radials would put the resonating frequency in the middle of the UHF spectrum. Why do so many plans include 7" radials, what am i missing?
