HD Channels on one set but not the other

Postby JonHDTV on Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:27 pm

I have a new HDTV that I bought 4 months ago that I hooked up to my rooftop antenna. From the first day I was able to pick up about 8 HD channels and 4 analog. About a week ago after a high wind storm I lost all but one HD channel. I've plugged another older set into the same connection point and I'm able to get the 8 HD channels. Why would the newer TV no longer detect the other channels. I have an older standard antenna on the roof with an amp.

Well, if you still receive the channels on the old TV, I guess the antenna is fine.
Have you tried to re-autoprogram the channels on the new TV set?

Yes, I've done the auto program several times. It'll pick up one of the HD stations but not the others. I'm wondering if there is different sensitivity between the two sets and their tuners. I can't imagine there is anything wrong with the new TV since it will pick up 5 analog channels and one HD channel.

You have probably done that, but check the cables going to the new TV for any possible damage after the storm.
Check also if disconnecting the old TV cables improves the performance of the new TV. That would be a sign of poor connection and impedance mismatch.

Sorry, don't have any other ideas.

The signal from the antenna is not split, so the connection to the new TV is the only connection in the house. The older TV is just used for kids to watch DVD and such in another room. I still think the newer TV, even though it is the same brand as the older one, has a different sensitivity to signal strength than the old one. I'm not sure why, maybe it has something to do with 1080i capablity, while the older one does not. I'm going to try changing a few things with the antenna and booster.
