No CBS for Creole Springs/Lake of Egypt ?

Postby kenw2937 on Mon Sep 21, 2009 12:16 pm

I've used the computer model on your site, and it suggests an antenna (no amplification) which it appears would not pull CBS.

I'm assuming this is because it is impractical for us to pull in the CBS transmitters.

I'd just like to get some assurance from a human that this is the correct interpretation. Would a bigger directional antenna with rotor and amplifier do the job, or is this just unlikely in our location?

We are in zip code 62922. We use 1 TV with a digital converter. We just are not at the lake often enough to order cable/DirectTV, but would like to get CBS.

Your CBS station is on VHF channel 12, and lies in a slightly different direction that the other local TV stations, which are on UHF. I would use a good-quality 4-bay UHF antenna, like a Channel Master 4221HD or a Winegard HD-4400 mounted on the roof aimed at 230 degrees. Use a small VHF-high-band yagi like a Winegard YA-6713 or an AntennaCraft Y5-7-13 aimed at channel 12 at 250 degrees, and combine the two antennas using a UHF-UHF antenna joiner like a Pico-Macom UVSJ. Be sure to separate the two antennas by at least 3.5 feet to avaid interaction between the two antennas. You can use a good quality high-input preamplifier like a Winegard HDP-269 if you plan to run long cable lengths (in excess of 70') or if oyu plan to run multiple TV sets from the antenna.
