cable to off air HDtv atenna

Postby vttvair09 on Mon Nov 16, 2009 2:36 pm

I currently subscribe to cable and would like to switch to off air Hdtv via antenna. I am located at 14 milo white rd. in Jericho Vt 05465, about 15 miles east of Burlington. My elevation is approx. 800 feet but my line of sight to Mt. Mansfield where most transmitters are located is partially blocked by trees. I have a very clear view of N.Y. across Lake Champlain to the West. I would like to install a roof top antenna on my 1 story house. I don't know if it is a good idea to install a vhf / uhf to catch all channels or if I should just go uhf assuming all channels will eventually update to that format. I guess my first concern should be what type of antenna, rotor?, amp?, size, or combination of two of more antenna? Initially I saw a BA2605 from Espymall and thought that was all encompassing but the more I read the less I know. I f I don't need a vhf antenna the instalation would look much neater and my wife would be happier with the appearance. Could you please advise, I really need help!

With the exception of Mountain Lake PBS, everyting is only 10 miles from you on top of Mt. Mansfield, and you need only a modest VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna aimed at 68 degrees from your location to see the Burlington stations. if you also want WCFE-DT, which is on channel 38, you should bet a separate UHF antenna aimed at 305 degrees and coupled to the main antenna using a Channel Master 0585-38 JoinTenna to combine the two antennas into one downlead.

I would use a Winegard HD-7694P antenna aimed at Mt. Mansfield, and an AntennasDirect XG-43 aimed at WCFE-DT, if you want that station: you'll see everything very clearly with that setup.
