Is Blu-Ray all it is cracked up to be?

Argh! Now I have to get a new DVD player too?! What is this Blu-Ray stuff all about? I'm sorry, I am just a real idiot when it comes to this television stuff. I just want to have tv that gets my local stations and to have a DVD player so I can rent movies now and again. Am I going to have to get a new DVD player now if I want to keep renting movies?
