best antenna for san francisco bay area

Ever since tv stations switched to HDtV, our reception has been sketchy. We have a very old outdoor antenna. No idea what kind it is. We live in San Mateo, CA 94403. Most of the stations we want to receive are in San Francisco, about 25 miles north. We would like to receive the basic networks ABC (KGO), CBS, PBS, NBC, CW, KTVU. We also like the PBS station in Santa Rosa KCRB that we sometimes get. Our reception is terrible when it is windy (often here), especially for KGO. What is the best antenna for us?

All of the TV stations that you mentioned lie north-north-east of you at a compass heading of roughly 315-320 degrees. You did not mention how many TV sets you wish to connect to the antenna, so I will assume that you want only one for the purposes of discussion. I would suggest that you roof-mount a Winegard HD-7694P aimed at 315 degrees by your compass. Be sure to follow grounding regulations listed in the installation guide linked below to assure that your TV set and house are protected against static electricity in the air. Once installed, you should get reliable reception of all of your desired stations.

Sorry for the tardy response. I didn't realize you had already replied. We have 3 televisions. The largest and most important one is on the ground floor in the northwest corner. There is a smaller set also on the ground floor in south part. The third is on an upper floor on the north side of the house Thanks,

You will need to pull coaxial cable from a central point in your home, ilke an attic or a basement, bring the coaxial cable from the TV antenna to that same point, and install a small distribution amplifier like a Channel Master CM3414 to connect the TV antenna to the various TV sets in your home. Once done, the TV reception will be uniform between the various TV locations in the house.

Thanks. By any chance do you know someone in the 94403 zipcode area who might be able to install the antenna properly?
thanks

Unfortunately, you are on the wrong coast for me...LOL If you have a good handyman available, and they can follow instructions, I can link a good antenna instruction manual to you that should allow you to get it done. Good Luck
