Best Antenna for my Location

Postby Hydroman on Thu Jul 31, 2008 10:48 pm

Greetings, I have been researching antennas and am still not sure of the best type for my situation. I am at 56001. Looking for digital signal as many as I can get. Just 2 TVs one with an Insignia converter and a Samsung -
Model: LN32A450 . Would prefer attic install but can go roof. Live in a regionally high location with some trees taller then house. Currently have an old VHF antenna I think and am pulling a few stations but fairly weak. Any advice on models and rotators appreciated. Thanks!

It appears that you have a bunch of digital translators not too far from you, but I can't tell what they rebroadcast, but if you want to pick up MSP off-air in digital, you are going to need a large all-channnel outdoor antenna with a preamplifier and some altitude, as the stations are 80 miles from you.

Thanks Tigerbangs! How about the Channel Master 4228 and the titan 7777 preamp? Also a rotator? Is there anything better? I can get to about 25 ft on the roof with my current mast. Will having a fringe type antenna complicate reception of the closer stations?? Thanks again!

The problem is that, in six months, you will have a couple of stations from MSP that will return to VHF in digital, and you will need VHF as well as UHF reception to pick them up. I would suggest an AntennasDirect XG-91 along with a Winegard YA-1713 high-band VHF yagi, or, better yet, a Funke PDP-1922, which is the highest-gain VHF high-band yagi available. You can get it from Greg Barker, AKA Midwest DXr, (gregbarker@webtv.net)

I tried Greg's email and it bounced back, also tried a PM from high Def Forum with no luck? So I shouldn't do the "Deep Fringe" setup? Thanks again!

You can, but since you won't have any low-band VHF, it's kind of a waste of money for you. Let me see if I can find how to get hold of Greg Barker for you...
