Attic Antenna in Oconomowoc WI

Postby pdkeller on Wed Apr 20, 2011 11:38 pm

We live about 30 miles west of Milwaukee in Oconomowoc. Our condominium rules prohibit outdoor antennas. I know they can't, but they do, and I'd rather not have a hassle over it. Our attic is fairly high, which ought to help. What would be the hot setup for an attic-mounted antenna?

What you want to do is quite easy. I tossed half a sheet of plywood on top of the rafters above the exact center of our attached single car garage. A large outdoor antenna (over 100" X 100") from Winegard was mounted on a free standing toilet tissure holder with a weighted base. An electrical outlet type box was placed directly behind the entertainment center in the wall. Coax was ran from the garage ceiling down the garage wall until directly behind the box. The coax was ran into the back of the box. A cover from Radio Shack for the box made the installation look professional. Because the house still had the cable company's coax running all over, I used a splitter and connected with the old cable. We now have crystal clear reception all over the house. My total cost of materials including the antenna was under $120. It has now been two years since a cable bill was paid and they are not missed.
