Attach antenna to TV or Home theater

Postby cbixel on Wed Jan 12, 2011 2:07 pm

I currently have DishNetwork hooked up to my now Samsung C5500 home theater. I am planning on canceling DishNetwork and simply using my new antenna, the Winegard HD-4400 4-bay UHF, to collect HDTV broadcasts.

My Satellite dish happens to be conveniently located on the roof, so I am hoping to simply install my antenna in its place, and use the coaxial cable that came from the satellite to carry the signal to my system. There is only one hitch. The satellite cable runs from the dish to the cable box, which is quite far from the TV. It does not look like the home theater system, which is right near the cable box, has an RF input. Rather, it only has an FM antenna input.

My Samsung UN4600 series TV is new, so it has an RF input, and a built in tuner, so I can run the cable to it, but running the cable is going to be possible, but quite a pain in the neck.

What are the alternatives?

I don't imagine it would work, but it would be great if I could simply find a way to send the signal in through the FM antenna connector...

Hi cibexl,

Welcome :D The fun of AV systems and home theater.

I have my antenna running directly to my 42inch Sony television, my television has a ATSC digital decoder and "optical output" for sound. So I then have an optical cable from the TV fed back to my home theater receiver. Now when I watch a HDTV 720P or 1080i broadcast on the TV I switch on the home theater receiver and TV/SAT input to get 5.1 Dolby surround sound. Remember to turn the sound down or mute the TV sound.

If your antenna coax is a little short just use a short coaxial lead and female coax cable coupler they cost about $2 from Walmart or Radio Shack.
