Astoria, Queens, NYC: NBC reception trouble

Postby emceenyc on Sun Jan 01, 2012 11:56 am

Hi all. I'm new to his forum and appreciate any assistance you may offer. I have a Samsung HD TV and a Tivo Premiere box, plus a Winegard HD-1080 DTV antenna. I have the cable for the antenna connected to the Tivo. I live on the 3rd floor of a 5 story apartment building in Astoria, Queens. Antennaweb.org says I am about 3.5 miles from all major channel signals at 266° compass heading. (Not sure I really understand how to know I'm pointing in that direction, though.) I have tried placing the antenna in the windows in various locations in the apartment, as well as attached to the fire escape (I know) on the front of the building. I still can't get NBC, though. Any ideas on why or how to remedy this? Thanks a lot.

One new discovery. I was able to get NBC when trying different locations, but when I get NBC, I lose Fox! I want both. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to remedy? Thanks again.

I live in Astoria as well, and was eventually able to get both FOX and NBC by pointing my antenna westward.
