Anyone near Greenbelt, MD?

Postby imisschannelknobs on Sun Nov 16, 2008 4:26 pm

Greetings from the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC!

I live in Greenbelt, Maryland, and I want to know if anyone else is from this area, and what luck you have had with antennae.

Greenbellt is on a line between downtown Washington and downtown Baltimore. It is roughly equidistant from the transmitters for the major local affiliates according to antennaweb.org.

We have an old antenna that needs to be replaced, so I want to get a new antenna that will allow us to get many of the digital stations. With our old antenna (rabbit ears with the UHF loop), we get 2 PBS affiliates, 1 ABC affiliate, 2 CBS affiliates, 2 NBC affiliates, and 1 FOX affiliate, but none of them is without some interference, and it sometimes takes some adjusting to get a decent picture.

So I am determining what sort of antenna to purchase. I'd like to go under $50, and I would prefer an indoor antenna, but whatever I end up with, I don't want to start out with a lot more antenna than I need (which would probably be an expensive outdoor antenna with a preamp).

Based on the information from antennaweb.org, I'd probably be happy with light green coverage. That is, I could probably get the stations I want with that coverage.

So any information, including the experiences of others in this area and general advice, would be appreciated.

I live in greenbelt and have two hdtv's. One downstairs and one upstairs of a two story house. After researching antennaweb.org and various hdtv antennas, my wife and I have settled on the Terk HDTVS Slim Profile antenna:

Now that we've installed this outdoor antenna our reception is beautiful. We get channels from DC and Baltimore clear as a bell! Channels 2 through 67 and all their digital counterparts. Nice! Glad we spent the money. We used to have an indoor antenna hooked up to both our tvs. The signal would come in and go out. Now with this antenna we get clear digital reception all the time.

I definitely suggest the Terk HDTVS Slim Profile. You can even watch this video to figure out how to install it:

Since you live in Greenbelt, email me off the board and I'll show you how I set mine up.
