Hi,

I live in West Orange near the Redwood elementary school. I could receive CBS, NBC and Fox before the DTV conversion. Now I could not find any of these channels. I have Channel Master 3016 mounted to a chimey - it is about 25 feet above from the ground. I had turned the antenna to different directions, but could not find CBS, NBC and Fox. My antenna is pointing toward NYC where most of the signals I want. If you live in West Orange (or somewhere else with helpful info), please help me. My coordinate is:
Lat: 40:48:43N (40.812)
Lon: 74:15:01W (-74.25023)

Thank you.

You have an obstructed view of the ESB from your location, and you really need an antenna with better UHF capability than the 3016 provides. Your antenna should be aimed at 121 degrees by your hand-held compass: if it isn't, then re-aim it. If you aren't succsessful, then you need a fringe-area antenna like a Winegard HD-7696P mounted on your roof if you want to insure that all of the NYC stations come in well. If you plan to run multiple Tv sets from this antenna, you need a distribution amplifier/solitter to devide the signal to give each TV set enough signal to operate properly.

I have a GE 4 way Distributor Amp AV23290 connected to two TV sets. A 30 feet cable runs from the antenna to the Amp. A 80 feet cable runs from the Amp to one TV set; another one about 25 feet. Would the Winegard HD-7696P with the Amp that I have give me strong signal reception from NYC?

Thank you.

Yes, it should work just fine...be sure to get as much altitude on your antenna as you possibly can.

I had installed the Winegard HD-7696P on my roof and pointed it to two different directions so far, but it had no better reception than my old Channel Master 3016. In fact, it has worst reception because I had lost the NJN channel with the TV set in the living room (it has a 50 yards cable run). The TV set with a short cable run could still pick up the NJN channel. This is the exact experience that I had with Channel Master 3016. After I installed the AMP, the TV set in the living room could pick up the signal from NJN.

Winegard HD-7696P should be a more powerful antenna than Channel Master 3016. Why Winegard HD-7696P has lesser performance than Channel Master 3016? Any advice.

Thank you.

The issue is most likley in your distribution amplifier: it sounds as if you have some long cble runs. I would ,replace the GE amp with a Channel Master CM3414, and be absolutely certain that you are aiming the antenna with the forked end ( the UHF end) towards the ESB. , If that doesn't work, the next step is to replace our coaxial cable.

Have you rescanned your digital tuner?

First of all, the cable connected to the TV set in the living room is 50 feet, not 50 yards. I had repositioned the antenna to a different position and it could pick up clear signal from the NJN channel (but the signal got lost again - due to rainy weather?). I would continue to reposition the antenna to find channel 7 - 13 signals from NYC. I bought this antenna expecting it could pick up the signals from these channels. Is this antenna very directional? I meant how much should I turn the antenna for different direction.

Thank you.

The antenna is VERY directional: If you find that you are constantly turning the antenna, I suggest that you consider buying an antenna rotator.

I am about to give up searching the signals for channel 7 thru 13. I had turned the antenna to NYC, but I didn't get any trace of the stations. There is another thing that I had found out. It seems the channel 47 TV tower is located right on Eagle Rock Ave which is only about than half mile from my house. I pointed the antenna toward the TV tower, but it did not pick up the signal from channel 47.

OK, try this: I believe that you have a scanning issue: not a reception issue. Do a DOUBLE-RESET of your tuner. Disconnect your tuner from the antenna, then have the tuner rescan for TV stations, after which time, the tuner's memory will be wiped clean. Be SURE that the antenna is aimed at the ESB, then reconnect the antenna and rescan for channels. That SHOULD do the trick.
