Antennae suggestion for zip code 75169 for Dallas to Tyler,

Postby wfj1952 on Tue Aug 17, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi. I am new to this forum. I need antennae advice for the Dallas to Tyler, Tx region. We are wanting to get rid of Direct TV due to high monthly cost and too many nights when there is nothing to watch.

You look to be about 55 miles from the Cedar Hill transmitters in DFW, and they are moderately strong in your area. You would do well with a fringe-area VHF-high-band plus UHF antenna like a Winegard HD-7696P or an AntennaCraft HBU-44, aimed at 260 degrees as measured by your compass. You shouldn't need a preamplifier unless you plan to run more than 2 TV sets from ths antenna, or if you have very long lengths of coax cable: in excess of 75' on any one leg of the system. If you also want the Tyler stations, add a rotator like the Channel Master 9521a or an Antennacraft TDP2, which will allow you to turn the antenna towards other transmitters.
