TV antennae reception when windy

Postby tsaleska on Wed Apr 06, 2011 7:54 am

The reception I get from my antennae, mounted on my roof, is great when the weather is good. All of the channels come in very well -- I get clear HD signals. The problems occur when it's windy outside. For some channels, the picture disappears and then returns a few seconds later. It's not fuzzy at all like the old analog signal, it just disappears and then returns. Will an amplifier, mounted on the antennae post on the roof, help?

Probably not. You can't amplify your way out of multipath, especially when it is dynamic.

You need to have the antenna situated in a spot where the trees aren't in the way. That means lateral relocation, a higher mast/tower, or a chainsaw, usually. If neither is feasible, you're probably only going to watch TV when the wind isn't blowing.
