antenna

Postby hochberg on Mon Jul 20, 2009 4:07 pm

I use a converter with my Toshiba TV, combined with a Radio Shack amplified uhf vhf fm antenna. The antenna has rabbit ears, a crescent shaped adjustable thing (do not know the term), and a dial. We generally get fine reception, but the reception will occassionally break up, especially when someone walks in front of the TV. Do you think that our antenna is adequate or would you recommend another antenna? Thanks.

State WHERE you are ( zip code would be most helpful ): 07631

State HOW MANY television sets you plan to run from the antenna system: 1

let us know if you live in a heavily forrested area, or if you live where you have taller buildings or towers within 3-4 blocks from your location. The area has many trees around houses, but is not heavily forrested. Buildings within 3 or 4 blocks are not higher than a few stories.

You will continue to have issues with disruption of your digital TV picture no matter WHICH indoor antenna you choose. The issue is that bodies walking in front of the TV screen are actually reflecting TV signals from the transmitter, which are arriving slightly later than the actual direct TV signals causing a condition called multipath. The only way to rid yourself of multipath issues is to install an outdoor antenna.

Thank you very much. Can you please suggest outdoor antennas that would be affordable and effective? Also, are they difficult to erect outside and to wire into the house? Thank you again.

You can use a simple and very effective antenna like a Winegard HD-7694P or an AntennaCraft HBU-33. Both antennas are moderate in size and will be very effective at giving you a reliable TV picture on all of your TV stations. I will include a link to a good antenna installation manual, which should answer many of your questions about installing an antenna.
