DC Antenna

Postby bobbartlett37 on Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:52 pm

Would you please suggest a HD antenna for a six inch DC color portable TV without a HD tuner in Columbia, SC, zip 29210, area code 803. I wish to recieve WIS-TV, channel 10 during hurricane periods to get weather reports and emergency messages when the power is out. Thank you for your previous help.

You need a mid-range antenna covering high-VHF to high-UHF bands, and capable of pulling a signal in 25-30 miles range without an amplifier (assuming the power is out, an amplifier can not be used). CM4228 is a great antenna for that, but it is really large, can it survive a hurricane without being broken or blown off the roof? I don't know ...

If all you need is WIS-TV, and don't care about the UHF stations, you might want to check a more compact YA-6713 antenna

The problem with that suggestion is that you won't be able to pick up WIS without a digital converter after Feb 17, 2009. WIS will be on UHF channel 41 not it's current location on channel 10. WOLO will be on channel 8, but, again, you'll need a digital tuner to pick it up. I suggest that you invest in an uninterruptible power supply, and pick up a digital convertor for hurricane season. Experience leads me to suggest the Zenith DTT series converters as being the best performers, with the Best Buy Insignia brand being it's under-the-skin twin.
