Antenna suggestions for zip 13338

Postby BigDave-123 on Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:04 pm

Looking for a rooftop antenna and amplifier suggestion for our home in zip code 13338. Exact coordinates are 43 degrees 35' 48.47" N and 75 degrees 07' 06.11" W.

Currently have a old rotor and antenna installed and get 3 stations but am looking for a better antenna that may get a few additionals stations for us. Also does anyone know if a Channel Master CM9537 rotor control unit will work with the old rotor that I currently have (Appears to be a Archer rotor)....

Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks -
Dave

When I ran a TVFool.com scan of your location, I see only 4 TV stations readily available from your location: a couple from Utica, and Channel 7 from Watertown. Unless you have some way to get a LOT more antenna height at your location, I don;t think that you'll see much more than you do now...

The CM9537 will work with the old Archer rotator.

Thanks, though what would you recommend as a replacement. The existing antenna got clobbered by a large tree branch and has many bent segments (I am guessing that they may break if I try to bend them back as some are at almost 90 degrees from where they are supposed to be)...

Is the Winegard HD8200 antenna a good option? I have seen some good reviews on this antenna and it seems fairly rugged though maybe there is something better out there for my location. Also, what are your thoughts on a pre-amplifier. Is the Winegard AP-8700 a good option for my location?

I have a contractor re-doing my roof so thought I may as well replace the clobbered antenna with something new.

Thanks -

You don't have any low-band VHF channels in your area, so I don't think that you need the Winegard HD-8200um but you CAN use a Winegard HD-7696P, which is a good fringe-area VHF high-band plus UHF antenna which should work well for you. I would also use a rotator like a Channel Master 9521a and a high-input preamplifier like a Winegard HDP-269, which won't overload in the face of strong signals.
