Antenna suggestion please!

Postby Misha's mom on Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:24 pm

I'm a low-tech person new to over the air after dumping cable. Using rabbit ears now. Want to switch to a rooftop antenna but very much confused as to which would be best. My zip code is 24551, my house is two stories high, and the house is surrounded by trees. The stations I want are in yellow, blue and violet codes. Any thoughts?

This isn't too bad a situation: the Roanoke stations are about 42 miles from you, and require a fringe-to-deep-fringe all-channel antenna, since WBRA operates on channel 3. I would use a Winegard HD-7084P antenna mounted on the roof aimed at 265 degrees. That antenna will pull the Roanoke stations for you just fine. I would use a high-input preamplifier like a Winegard HDP-269, which mounts at the antenna to boost signals to allow you to run long cable lines and power up to 4 TV sets from the antenna. I will give you some links to the equipment, and also a good installation guide.

Thank you! I haven't had time to read all the material yet but hopefully this will be just a weekend project once I get all the pieces together.
