Antenna Rotator

Postby wallybear01 on Sat Dec 26, 2009 10:10 am

I just installed an Antennas Direct 91XG with a CM 7777 preamp in the attic, and receive all the Philly stations at about 90% (45 miles away)
The New York Stations (65 miles away) come in between 20-30%. The cutoff for my hd tuner seems to be about 25%.
Instead of manually positioning the antenna, running down 2 flights of stairs, checking signal strength, then going back upstairs, I was thinking
of getting a rotator (plenty of room up in the attic).
Wondering what type everyone would recommend. I heard the Channel Masters were good at one point, but are now made in China.

Moving the antenna up to the roof is not an option, althought that would probably solve the reception issue.

Any suggestions?

There is no reason why you cannot mount your antenna on the roof unless YOU choose not to do so.

Mounting your antenna on the roof by itself will not help you with WABC, WPIX and WNET, which are on VHF: you will need a VHF high-band yagi in order to see them. I am surprised that you are able to see WPVI using only an XG-91, since it is on low-band VHF channel 6, which the XG-91 normally should not be able to see.

Ok, let me clarify a bit.
Yes, I can physically mount the antenna on the roof, but my wife chooses not to let me. ;)

The stations I am getting are all UHF. I was looking at a rotator to "fine tune" the antenna.

Any suggestions on a rotator?

Thanks again for your help. This forum is great in answering any and all questions.

I have no doubt that all of the stations that you are getting are UHF, but if you want ALL of the stations that you are capable of getting, consider adding a VHF high-band yagi to the XG-91: your CM Titan 7777 accomodates a separate VHF antenna without any additional equipment other than an additional antenna. I would use an AntennasCraft Y-10-7-13 for that purpose. and I woud use a Channel Master 9521a rotator to turn the antenna.
