antenna reception help

Postby stalajkowski on Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:07 pm

Having reception problems with recently bought a WInegard HD7695P antenna to replace an old antenna of similar size.
The older antenna worked but is literally falling apart. Signal strength was in the 60% range
When I installed the new WInegard I was able to scan only 30 plus channel and was unable to get channels 7(abc) 0r 2(fox) among others
With the old antenna I could get around 47,
Tried playing with the cartridge housing, the coax cable and nothing better.
I now have the old antenna back up which took a bit of a beating when it was removed so it does not work as it did before.

Here is the set up

Castro Valley, CA
2 story house at higher elevation in hilly part of town with trees obstructing view but no other man made structures
Antenna on roof with rotor.
about 20 miles from tower in San Francisco
no more than 25 feet of cable from antenna to TV
TV 50in Panasonic
Planning to split signal to a Samsung tuner for ceiling projector downstairs. (another 15 ft of cable)
The cable runs through an older RCA distribution amp. (This was needed for the old antenna, but I tried the scan with and without it.
