Antenna Newcomer needs some help

Postby mkeller234 on Sat Nov 26, 2011 10:44 am

I will start by saying that I have very little knowledge about antennas, but I am willing to learn. I have been working on my antenna setup for about one month and have not had any success and this is my final desperate attempt.

Here is what I have done:

First I went to antennaweb.net and found that the stations I wanted were in the Blue and Violet zones. There are stations in the yellow and red zones nearby, but I have not even been able to get those.

I bought a channel master 4228HD antenna, a Digital Stream converter box and some basic cables to hook it all up. I did not purchase an amplifier yet. In hooking all of this up, I went from the antenna, to a splitter box and then to two different TV's. I feel like splitting the signal might be a mistake. I took the antenna into my attic (single story home with attic). I turned the signal meter on the tv and walked around the attic, my wife monitored the meter and told me nothing happened. I then took the antenna outside and walked around the yard, still nothing. Now there are structures (garages and homes) close to me because this is an urban neighborhood. I was still surprised that I got no signal being outside.

I am assume that I am doing something wrong. Maybe someone here can offer up some tips? I'm to the point where I just want to cut my losses and sell everything.

Here are my TV fool results. I set my antenna as 0 feet above ground level.
