Antenna Ideas

Postby seemaxgo on Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:44 pm

Location: NY 14873 Area - one TV

I live in a hilly/valley/forested area. I have an older radio shack antenna with a rotor (it has 17 bars on it if that helps). Before the digital conversion I could rotate the antenna and get Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse by pointing it in different directions. Reception was fair at best, with Syracuse being the strongest.

I obtained a converter box and have tried my rotor at every position. I don't receive any channels. The best I can get is a signal in the bad area of the converter box strength indicator at one rotor spot for channels 10 and 13 (I think that might be Rochester). My first question is since I can get a bad signal, would a bigger/better antenna possibly bring it in? If so what antenna (s) would be best.

Thanks, Jim

Becasue the area that you live in is so hilly, a zip code won't allow me enough resolution to know about your specific location: I need either your coordinates or your exact street address to know for sure what you need.. If you prefer, you can private message me with that information, and I will post a reply in this space.

If you think of a valley (going north/south) with a hill on each side. We are on one of those side hills about 1/2 way up. If you look south you go down the valley for miles. If you look west you look over the valley, you see over the top of the other valley hill. If you look north you go up the valley and up the hill to the top (again a few miles). These hills are sort of rolling and not very steep since they were farmed at one time. Now just lots of trees.

I take it it does not look good.

Well, if we could get an antenna up to the top of the valley, we might just eke out a signal, but, as it stands, it's not promising.
