antenna help, 70 miles north of San Diego

Postby FRED on Mon Jan 18, 2010 6:13 pm

Hello,
I am new to this board and are looking for a solution. We are living, as you say, in the sticks. 70 miles north of San Diego in hilly terrain, at area code 92590. we are presently using Direct TV dish satellite. Our house is on top of a hill and I like to get an Antenna if I could receive a good enough signal. I searched this forum and I noticed that "Tigerbanks" made a recommendation to a fellow in Southern California for a set up using two antennas. If this or even a better system would work for me, I like to give it a try.

Your recommended: Winegard YA 1713 VHF antenna
Direct XG-91 (UHF)
Channelmaster Titan 7777 Preamp
Channelmaster Rotator 9521

Do you think this set up could work for me too, or do I need a more power full system (if available)

I appreciate you in put, Thanks, Fred

The antenna system recommended os about as powerful as you are likely to be able to install yourself. In order to know what will work for you, please state rieter your exact coordinates or your street address.

Thanks for providing your address, it does help. Yes, the antenna system that I described earlier will be a good colution for you. The San Diego transmitters lie in two slightly directions from your home, but I believe that you will be able to use the system without a rotator if you aim the VHF antenna at 173 degrees and the UHF antenna at 152 degrees from your location measured by your compass. Your TV signals are weak, but usable, and you shold be successful with all of the San Diego stations.

Thank you very much for your information. I will go head and order the parts and install the antenna. One question, is there an easy way to aim the direction with a compass?
