Antenna Help in Knoxville

Postby TVHawk on Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:07 pm

I am new to off-the-air TV. I have had cable, but am sick of paying through the nose for it, so I'm cutting the cord. I'm looking for some advice on antenna selection and installation. My house is a basement ranch. The only TV we have right now is a newer digital flatscreen and is located in the basement; we may add others later, but that's a different topic. If possible, I would like to avoid a roof install; but my main goal is to avoid cable, so I guess I'm open to anything.

Here are my TV Fool results: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapp ... 91b259825c

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

If your TV set is in the basement, then you really need to expect that you will need some sort of roof-top or at least attic antenna to get adequate reception of the Knoxville stations. A roof-mounting is always the preferred way to go, but your situation may allow for attic mounting providing that your house does not have aluminum siding, foil-backed insulation in the attic, metal HVAC ductwork in the attic, or a concrete tile or metal roof. I suggest that you consider a Winegard HD-7694P or an AntennaCraft HBU-22 combination antenna aimed at roughly 45 degrees as measured by your compass. Use all high-quality RG-6u coaxial cable, and be sure to ground the antenna coax where it enters the house by using an approved grounding rod and coax cable clamp. All of the Knoxville stations should come in perfectly if you follow this advice.

Hello-

I am a potential newbie to the HD antenna scene. I have a house on top of a mountain (1,850' elevation) in East Tennessee about 30 miles northeast of Knoxvega$, and I have an 80 ft mast and would like to add a HD antenna to receive over the air broadcasts in my area. I will need to run a cable from my house (underground) roughly 200' to my mast, and then 80' up the mast to the antenna.

Questions:

1) Please recommend an HD Antenna for my situation
2) Please advise what type of outdoor rated (shielded) cable I will need.
3) Please any special underground shielding and mast/antenna grounding I will need.

Attached is my TV signal locator results for reference.

Thank you for any help you can provide!
