Antenna help for zip 45133

Postby Taco.Dan on Sat Jul 24, 2010 6:51 pm

I need to replace a RS VU-190 that is wind damaged, it's on a 35 ft. tower with a rotor with a RS pre-amp.

Have a Panasonic 50" plasma, this is a great TV but one small problem it doesn't have a digital add on, when you scan for new channels you loose some or all of the ones you had from the last scan.

I will soon only have 1 VHF station as WCPO (9.1) is moving to UHF band this year so I'm leaning to a UHF only antenna for now and maybe add something to get WKRC (12.1) later.

Thanks
from the Buckeye State

There is no need to miss WKRC, use a Winegard HD-7698p or an AntennaCraft HBU-55 in place of the VU-190, and you'll get everything. You didn't mention if you were using a rotator, but you'll see Dayton and Columbus if you do.

Everything's up and playing.............

3 Analog channels a little grainy (almost forgot what it was like ;) )

53 Digital main & sub channels.

All from 3 markets @ 40, 50, & 60 miles.

The only thing I see bad about this Ant. is the so called "Cartridge Housing" You better put a zip-tie around it or you'll be climbing back up to visit it !

Antenna update:

I don't know what really happened to the 7698, but after 3 or 4 weeks it started to loose it's luster.

I tried it with out an amp, even tried a Winegard amp nothing was working So....................

I changed it out for a Antennas Direct 91XG UHF/(VHF-Hi) TV Antenna.

All I can say for now is I wished I'd installed this antenna FIRST !

Much to my surprise it gets my only VHF-Hi channel (12) @ 60-70 % on the signal meter.

BTW the tree missing in the newer photo didn't help the 7698 when I took it out.

I'll bet that you had an issue with the matching transformer inside the weather housing of the Winegard. the matching transformers are the most troublesome part of any passive antenna system.
