antenna help for 78721

Postby markispieratt on Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:17 pm

hello i am looking for some help with locating a signal with my antenna

reading through these posts i found tv.fool, great tool but found it a bit difficult to put that info into action...

any assistance would be greatly appreciated

channel master 4221 LD antenna , trying to pickup the signal for 62.1 (univision).

the antenna is located on the roof of a house about 2/3 down a 1-blocklong but steepish hill, to the north, from which i understand univision's signal is broadcast.
antenna located right around 30*16'25.45"N 97*41'16.84"W elev 508 ft.

many thanks in advance

KAKW, your Univision station, operates on VHF channel 13, and it's transmitter is about 35 miles from you. I wouldn't ever expect that you would see channel 13 using a 4221 at that distance. I suggest that you add a small VHF yagi like a Winegard YA-6713, separated by at least 4; on the same mast as your 4221. Aim the VHF antenna at 325 degrees, and combine the signal from the two antennas using a Pico-Macom UVSJ combiner. You'll see channel 62.1 perfectly when you do.

thanks tigerbangs

in your view, is there a better single antenna scenario (if i were to return the 4221 to Fry's), or is the combination you speak of more efficient (and cost effective), and maybe a combination you recommend on it's own?

so how does this combining of antennas work?, does one get the combined recommended ranges of the two antennas?

Since channel 13 and the other Austin stations lie in different directions, the equipment that I suggested is a better choice than a single antenna. aS FOR COMBINING THE TWO ANTENNAS, THE Pico-Macom UVSJ looks like a simple splitter: the UHF antenna goes into one side: the VHF antenna goes into the other, and then you run the output of the device to the amplifier located inside the house. This connection has negligible effect in the range of the antennas, but remember than these antennas pick up only in the direction in which they are pointed.

great, have one on way. you mentioned the antennas need to be separated by at least 4; (4 inches, feet, ?)

thanks again

i have the same problem as you markispieratt. i would like to get the Univision HDTV station in NW/central Austin so i can watch world cup soccer. Antenna web shows me that my only univision affiliate is the one in Killeen. however, after failing every method with conventional rabbit ears in and out of the house, i just manually flipped through every possible RFID that my DTV converter will let me flip through. i came across a few stations that the auto tuning had never picked up and that antenna web didn't list for my location (and also did not come through with a google search on Univision Austin). the good news is that an Univision affiliate was among them. it came in on RFID 30,31,32, or 33. sorry. i don't remember exactly which. however, it comes through the TV as 31-2.
