Antenna HDTV help for 54451

Postby ccarbo on Thu Apr 30, 2009 4:08 pm

I live in city, zipcode 54451. I bought a DX Antenna Active 5 DTA3500 Amplified Multi-Directional Antenna. The sattelite dealer sells these and has installed 100s of them and they work great. OK, so I ordered it. It comes with the remote/controller..... well I was going to install on roof top (2 story house) and then run coax to the charter communication input to the house so that all my coax in rooms would have at least OTA HD. I also have Dish but that is separate cabling. This Active 5 wants a straight run to that controller then can split coming out of that. Not sure if I can do that because I need AC power for that controller. Anyone experts out there have any suggestions for me. Should I get a different antenna or what do you suggest. There is a possibility I could run 1 coax into this small area in basement then run coax back out to coax box so I can connect to rest of house. How many splitters (1000Mhz) can a guy have before you lose to much signal Thanks.

I really don't think that antenna is going to have enough gain for your needs in your area. You really need a fringe-area antenna with a preamplifier and a rotator if you want to see both Eau Claire and Wausau TV. The antenna that you bought is intended to be used with an ATSC 'smart-box' convertor, and really isn't suited for multiple TV installations.

You are a prime candidate for my deep-fringe prescription: a Winegard YA-1713 VHF high-band Yagi plus an AntennasDirect 91XG UHF antenna mounted on the same mast. Mount the XG-91 on top of the mast, with the YA-1713 4' below it. Mount the two antennas on a Channel Master 9521a rotator, and connect the two antenna together with a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier. Run the output of the preamplifier to a location where you have access to AC power, and mount the power supply of the preamplifier, then feed the output of the power supply to your splitter that distributes the signal to your TV sets. You'll need yto rotate the antenna to see all of your available channels, but you will then be able to see all of your mahjor networks.
