Antenna Grounding

I have just installed Winegard HD7697 on my roof...it is huge. It is on a 10 ft mast. Need to know best way to ground it. My friend suggested running ground wire from mast to outside sprinkler pipe on the side of the house (it is copper). I read about grounding to cold water pipe (no water in sprinkler pipe now). I am splitting 3 ways...do I need to ground to tv or just use surge protector?
Help!

An antenna has to be grounded with a copper ground rod, according to federal saffety guidelines. Have a look at the instructions posted in this link to help you:
