Antenna for rural MN?

Postby wembucs on Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:47 pm

We currently reside in 56096, about 60 miles south of Minneapolis. We have a Sony HDTV and are looking to hook up an antenna. What would be our best option for long range reception since we are far away from station towers?

Thanks

You are just about 60 miles from the Shoreview transmitters in MSP, and those transmitters put a weak, but still usable signal over your area. You also have signals from Mankato, MN and Mason City IA, available to you whith a deep-fringe antenna system and rotator.

I recommend using a 2-antenna system consisting of an AntennaCraft Y-10-7-13 for VHF reception, and an AntennasDirect XG-91 for UHF. The UHF antenna should be mounted above the rotator, at least 4' above the VHF antenna, and the two antennas should be coupled using a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier. I would ise all new RG-6u coaxial cable, and use a Channel Master 9521a rotator to turn the antenna array. You will see all of the Minneapolis-St. Paul stations plus stations from other areas with this antenna system. Follow the installation instructions listed below, and you should be very successful
