Antenna for hunting camp

Postby Duke on Mon Nov 09, 2009 9:01 pm

Looking for a little advice. We have a small hunting camp in the boonies of Greenfield Maine, area code 04418. We only get up to it a couple of times a year for a week or two at a time. There is no power so we run on generator and dont leave anything of too much value there when we leave. We havent been up since the switchover so havent tried anything yet. Before, we were using a 13 " with built in rabbit ears and were able to get 3 or 4 channels but now have a 19" LCD. I really dont want to mount anything too nice for fear it wont be there when we go back so something portable would be a better option. I beleive we are within 20 to 30 miles of 4 stations, 2 VHF and 2 UHF. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated before we waste any money on something that wont work.

If your coordinates are right, the Bangor TV stations aren't too far from you, and they are small arc roughly WestNorth West of you. Since WLBZ-DT operates on channel 2 digital, you are going to need an all-channel antenna. I would suggest using a Winegard HD-7082P mouted on the cabin roof and aimed at 300 degrees by your compass. Use good quality RG-6u coax cable run from the antenna to the TV set, and be sure that the menu on your TV set is set for 'antenna" and not'cable, then scan once the antenna is connected: I think that you'll be surprised at how well you'll do.

Thank you for your help, I think we'll try that on a mast up the side of the camp so we can take it down when we leave. Thanks again.

The antenna doesn't require any electrical power: it's completely passive, so it should suit you well...

We have plenty of power with the generator, do you think we'll need an amplifier ?
