Antenna for 75002, North Dallas area

Postby rwiz47 on Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:58 am

Ok so looking at Antennaweb it says I need yellow for most, and green...Which shows that Im 40 miles from all towers pretty much...all are in the same direction luckily 202-205degrees.

Now I want a smaller antenna, not the big ol ship mast looking ones, I would prefer to put it on my existing DTV dish pole if possible. I have DTV but want to add an antenna as well for the local stuff in HD.

Any suggestions?

Im leaning towards the Channel Master CM2016, Terk HDTVo, and the Winegard MS-2000. All these seem somewhat small but want to make sure they can pull in my channels. With a cheap set of RCA rabbit ears I can pull in about 10 channels, most of them crappy so I know I need more.

None of the antennas that you have listed is likely to give you reliable reception at a distance of 40 miles from the transmitters on all of the channels that you want. I suggest using a Winegard HD-7694P VHF-high-band + UHF antenna aimed at the Cedar Hill transmitters...

Thanks for the reply. I like the fact that the 7694p is shorter and not as wide as most of those bigger antennas.

Now I see that most antennas for post DTV are for channels 7-69....in the Dallas area right now 2 of the main locals are channels 4 and 5....will I NOT be able to get these channels or will something change with them like to a different channel later? I just want to be sure I can get those 2 channels(Fox and NBC).

You are looking at the ANALOG frequencies of those stations, the DIGITAL stations will be on different channels

These will be your new digital channel assignments for DFW

I also live in the 75002 zip code and need an outdoor antenna that will pass approval by my HOA so it has to be 'dish like' in appearance and have a diameter no larger than 1 meter. The surrounding area is all flat and there are no tall buildings around for at least 4 blocks (just 2 story homes). I'm using an old Toshiba CF27H50 TV with a digital converter box. Right now, I can barely pull in a choppy signal for Channel 8 with my rabbit ears. I definately want to upgrade my viewing experience for this channel and others. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Under existing federal law, your HOA is specifically prohibited from imposing such regulations on the size and appearance of your antenna for OTA television (among other things).

See the FCC's OTARD rules here: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html

Print a copy and send it to the HOA's management if you wish but you have the feds on your side on this one.
