Antenna dilemna

Postby shakyman on Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:37 pm

My mother-in-law lives at 2560 245th St., Clutier, IA 52217, on a farm. I set up the convertor boxes for two tvs, however, the signal power is 50% and below, insuring that she will lose reception during rainfall. It is a two-story with very steep roofs. It appears she is in a blue zone. How tall would the mast have to be and do you have an antenna recommendation. Radioshack has a $60 one that appears my do the trick, but I'm unsure. Thanks.

You have two cities available to you: Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. With a good all-channel antenna, a rotator and a preamplifier, both cities will be available to you without much of a problem. I would use a Channel Master Crossfire 3671 or a Winegard HD8200P, a Channel Master 9521a automatic rotator, and a Winegard HDP-269 preamplifier. Installed at the highest point on the roof, either of these antenna systemas will give you everything that you are going to need. You will need low-band VHF reception since WOI-DT will go back to channel 5 after Feb, 17, 2009
