Antenna advice for 76209 Denton TX

Postby gontoofar on Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:17 pm

I would like to cancel my cable service and get my HD channels free and use HULU for the rest. Any idea what I would need to accomplish this. I assume I need an HD receiver and antenna. Help!

You really aren't in bad shape for TV reception: you will need an outdoor antenna, but I expect that you'll be able to see the DFW stations without a problem with a good antenna. I would bet that your Panasonic Plasma already has a digital TV tuner in it, although I can't be sure about your Mitsubishi set without knowing it's model number. If you can provide that information, I can tell you whether you'll need an HDTV tuner for either set.

As for what antenna to use: I would suggest using a Winegard HD-7696P mounted at least 25' from the ground. You can simply aim it at the DFW stations, and you'll get PLENTY of TV stations, however, if you also want the Sherman stations and a few other scattered stations, you might want to consider using a rotator, which will allow you to turn the antenna towards the city whose stations you want to see. I would suggest a preamplifier for you, since your TV signals are only moderate in strength at your location, and you plan to run two or more TV sets. In your situation, I suggest the Winegard HDP-269, which has moderate gain, but will shrug off strong stations that often overload other preamps. You can use a good 2-way splitter after the preamplifier power injector to divide the signal between the 2 TV sets: the preamp will compensate for the splitting and line losses associated with multiple TV antenna installations.
