Amplifier for 77566

Postby frj11 on Mon Jun 15, 2009 3:24 pm

I am considering adding an amplifier to my DB8 antenna. I understand that this will help with losses due to coax cable and splitters. I am looking at the PA-18 Pre-Amp. Is there something better that is generally available? My set up can be seen at: http://www.vistaviews.net/frj/dtv.htm

Based on what I can see of your location, you shouldn't need a preamplifier where you are: signals are very strong. Are yu running more than one TV set? Are you having issues with your newly converted VHF digital channels? The DB-8 is not intended for VHF channels.

Update 8/17/09:

Motorola Signal Booster 484095-001-00 Bi-Directional RF Amplifier was installed August 13, 2009 and fine tuning was accomplished by adjusting the antenna's position slightly with the signal strength of CBS as the test criteria. With this device installed reception improved to such an extent that I could again enjoy watching television.

This device was purchased from Amizon.com.

Finally my problems are solved with out resorting to an outside antenna or a mast.

And, had you taken the time to mount the antenna on the roof, as it was intended to be, you wouldn't have needed the preamplifier...
