Amplified Indoor Antenna

Hello,
I live in area code 46142. I am 1.5 miles from the Greenwood mall. I have a Curits 7" LCD TV and an Apex digital conveter box. Connected to the box is a Radio Shack non-amplified antenna. I am getting reception but when the Apex cycles to each station it displays "weak signal". This televison is in my bathroom. The antenna is on top of a linen cabinet near the 8' high ceiling. My other tv's use direct tv and obviously the reception is great. Do you feel a amplified indoor antenna would help or am I just wasting my money? If you feel it would help can you recommend an antenna?
