Advice Picking out and Installing Antenna Venice FL (34293)

Postby MotenaiRonin on Sat Jul 02, 2011 11:52 pm

A One-Story Home. All the homes on this street are one-story. A few big leafy oaks in the yard and around the block, interspersed.

Looking for Roof-Mount / Side of House Outdoor Solution.

Channel Listing that I (humbly) would like to receive:
List of TV Channels in Venice, Florida (within 100 miles of the selected location)

Could use some advice on strength of Antenna required, how to turn and position antenna for directional reception (how to measure the angles), the adequate pre-amp gain necessary, running about 50 feet of cable from point of installation to TV(s).

Complications include: existing and active DirecTV setup combined into house-lines and diplexer will(?) be needed at TV output.
Inactive co-ax wiring available from the time when the house was hooked up to Comcast Cable. Confusion occurs when attempting to figure out how to wire antenna through existing wiring to TV.

Thanks in Advance,

Venetian, FL

Guess I should explain further,

There are 4 TVs in the house.

3 that do not have DTV tuners, and one that does.
The one receiving DirecTV does not have a tuner, the one that will primarily be using the Antenna for OTA broadcast is a Samsung 40'' LED 1080 and does have a built-in tuner.

At this time splitting the signal for multiple TVs is not a priority but I would rather leave the road open for opportunity by getting the right equipment now.

Oh, question. So the DirecTV is combined into the same wiring that comes into the house and through the jacks, they are piggybacking on the wiring Comcast put in when the house was set up for Cable, is it fine to piggyback an Antenna signal to the same co-axes? and if so wouldn't I need a diplexer at every site where I wanted to split the satellite signal away from the antenna signa?l (as the satellite signal would go to the receiver, and the antenna signal would feed into the antenna input on the back of the tv...)

BTW

I think I'm pretty firmly in the Blue Zone (that may be an exaggeration)
