2nd Antenna Advice

Postby crouth on Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:19 am

11778
1 television with an Insignia NS DXA1 digital converter about 65' from the antenna

A while back I got the Channelmaster 4228 with a Winegard HDP-269 pre-amplifier. It gets all of the Connecticut channels to the North that we would like. I was looking to add another antenna to pick up some of the New York City channels. We mostly want the pbs stations, 21 and 13, but it would be nice to get some of the major networks if possible. I do not want to get a rotator, can someone recommend an antenna? in addition, which antenna should be mounted higher up, assuming it's ok for them to be on the same mast?

When looking at tvfool.com is it the "real" or "virtual" channels that are most important when considering an antenna?

Thanks in advance for the help.

NYC is still available to you, but I suggest having a mast long enough where you can separate th antennas by at least 5' I recommend putting the 4228 on the top, and buying a Winegard HD-7697 VHF-high-UHF antenna aimed at NYC and run a new preamplifier and cabling from that antenna. Connect an A/B switch after the power supply of the preamplifier to allow you to select between CT and NYC if you won't use a rotator. If you plan to run multiple TV sets, you will need to run an additional cable and an A/B switch to each TV set that you intend to run from the antenna array. Unfortunately, there is no economical way to join the signals of the two antennas into one antenna downlead without creating major headaches. NYC will have digital channels 7,11, and 13 after February 17, 2009, so you will need VHF as well as UHF to seee the NYC stations.

Thanks so much for your help. Which preamp do you recommend for Winegard HD 7697?

I would use a Channel Master Titan 7777 for your NYC stations, since NYC is a bit farther away than the Ct stations, and you will want the extra gain...
