19963 antenna help

Postby Rocky on Mon Jul 27, 2009 8:36 am

I searched for something in my area but could not find any postings. I am located at 38 53 56N 75 24 20W and live in a fairly flat location. The nearest stations are about 45 miles from me. I have HDTV and also have converter boxes. I was wondering which antenna do you recommend. I shop I went to said I should get either the Autovox HDTVo directional (Blue) or the HDTVs omnidirectional (Red). I have tried to find and estimated distance for good reception for these but have not been able. I was wondering if I might be able to get either Philadelphia or Baltimore with either of these. It appears I could receive Salisbury with them.
Thanks Rocky

The antennas that were suggested to you are inadaquate for your needs: you really need a deep-fringe solution if you want to see the Philadelphia and Baltimore stations, which are the most likely candidates for to pick up from your location. Since Philadelphia has a low-band VHF channel in WPVI(ABC), I would suggest a 2-antenna system consisting of an AntennasDirect XG-91 UHF antenna plus an AntennaCraft CS-1100 VHF antenna. Mount the two antennas as high as you can possibly get them: at least 30' from the groud, and use a rotator like a Channel Master 9521a rotator. You will also need a preamplifier, and the Channel Master Titan 7777 is the best preamp for the job. Since these stations are very weak in your area, and almost 75 miles away, I can't guarantee that you will seee all of the Philly and Baltimore stations at one time, but this combination of antenna will give you the best chance of seeing a wide variety of Tv stations. The local Salisbury and Atlantic City stations will also come in clearly and reliably 100% of the time using this antenna system.
