Lately we have been dealing with an increasing number of attempts to manipulate product rankings. Note: each person is allowed to post one and only one review for each product. Exceptions can be made only under special circumstances when the reviewer feels that his earlier review must be corrected.

We have a sophisticated manipulation detection system in place and we will not tolerate any attempt to game the system and mislead consumers and our visitors. We reserve the right to delete any review that we feel is misleading or inappropriate and do that at our sole discretion. Thanks for understanding.

Also, from now on we require all reviews to be at least 100 words long. Short reviews, such as "a piece of junk" or "works as advertised" are not very helpful. Consider specifying more details. Elaborate on your location, the equipment you are using, reception quality of specific channels in your area. Check the word counter at the bottom when writing.

Philco TB100HH9 Review #0
Rating: 1 (very poor) Nickname: Don Rohn Date: 2009-08-18
Summary: Unit operated reliably on 2 occasions then crashed
I purchased 2 of the units early on in the program for use in our motor home which has analog sets that are too new to replace. I hooked them up and tried them immediately then put them away untill the mandated switch to digital. Last month we took a trip to a State Park outside a digital viewing area but within range of Canadian analog stations. They worked fine on analog passthrough but when I tried to switch back to digital the set would not switch. I talked to the retailer where I purchased them and learned that the problem was a common one with the early Philcos and to contact the manufacturer. I did and learned that since the unit is over a year old they will not stand behind it. One is still functioning but not for long I suspect. I will have to replace both but it will not be with a Funai product, nor will I ever consider a product manufactured or distributed through them. A VERY dissatisfied customer

Summary:
I tried to find out the life of my Philco TB100HH9 converter box. I believe this information should be received before purchase. Anyway, we bought it in June 2009 and it is now dead. Is this the nature of the beast? Does it have to be replaced every 13 months? We liked it until it died. We didn\t mind using two remotes to get all of the functions that we needed. We are trying a less expensive brand on another old TV. We might be able to find out the life of that one and change all of them. Why is there built-in obsolescence? Is this to force us to buy new TVs?

Summary: Patience may be needed
I got into an enthusiastic hurry to get the televisions set-up and totally neglected to read the manual expecting a Converter Box to work like a DSL box...., i.e., plug it in and its done. NOT SO with the Digital to Analog Converter box. So, I turned to Amazon for some reviews. True enough, as per other reviewers, I needed to follow the instructions in the manual to set-up the converter, in particular, to "pass through" which meant to take the extra steps described on page 29 (in my manual)... And then with a bit of rabbit ear adjustment, the stations are coming in clearer than with the antennae alone... NO SNOW. SNOW meant I had NOT quite gotten to the pass through instructions (or had not taken extra time to hand adjust the antennae after pass through was completed...) Follow the manual, take your time, and the Philco works fine (so far!). I am getting a beautiful picture that I only got with luck before.

Rating: 4 (good) Nickname: anonymous Date: 2009-06-06
Summary: It's very nice but the remote sucks
The control it's HORRIBLE! Just like 98% of these converter boxes. But it pick up stations very fast and clear I'll just buy a universal remote in the future.

Summary: Great Buy!
Works great! The remote is somewaht cheaply made and it does not support HDTV, but for less than $10 (after the government coupon) I cant complain.
