| I purchased 2 of the units early on in the program for use in our motor home which has analog sets that are too new to replace. I hooked them up and tried them immediately then put them away untill the mandated switch to digital. Last month we took a trip to a State Park outside a digital viewing area but within range of Canadian analog stations. They worked fine on analog passthrough but when I tried to switch back to digital the set would not switch. I talked to the retailer where I purchased them and learned that the problem was a common one with the early Philcos and to contact the manufacturer. I did and learned that since the unit is over a year old they will not stand behind it. One is still functioning but not for long I suspect. I will have to replace both but it will not be with a Funai product,nor will I ever consider a product manufactured or distributed through them. A VERY dissatisfied customer | ||

| Summary: Remote alone makes this a "don't buy" | ||
| The basic functions (picture, etc.) work fine. However, I later bought an Insignia converter at Best Buy and then found out how deficient the features and remote of the Philco unit are. The Philco remote has some buttons that are as small as pinheads; it must be seen to be believed. Also it lacks direct button access to features such as zoom,letterbox, etc. You need to activate setup and go thru 2 more menus with those tiny buttons, unlike the Insignia which has direct access to that and many more functions. I'm sorry I did not buy 2 Insignia units, but it's hard to get this info until after you buy and operate the unit. | ||

| THe video portion works pretty well and was easy to set up. Surprisingly, even in Manhattan where the rabbit ears gave a noisy picture, the digital is very clear. But the sound is poor, has low volume, and has a hiss reminiscent of no name cassette tapes in the 60s. This is a big negative for me. Oh, and the butt-ugly remote control that is the sole lifeline to television viewing is another negative. | ||
