Lately we have been dealing with an increasing number of attempts to manipulate product rankings. Note: each person is allowed to post one and only one review for each product. Exceptions can be made only under special circumstances when the reviewer feels that his earlier review must be corrected.
We have a sophisticated manipulation detection system in place and we will not tolerate any attempt to game the system and mislead consumers and our visitors. We reserve the right to delete any review that we feel is misleading or inappropriate and do that at our sole discretion. Thanks for understanding.
Also, from now on we require all reviews to be at least 100 words long. Short reviews, such as "a piece of junk" or "works as advertised" are not very helpful. Consider specifying more details. Elaborate on your location, the equipment you are using, reception quality of specific channels in your area. Check the word counter at the bottom when writing.

| Summary: Best one for sure | ||
| Not only does it perform well, it offers more features than other brands. Item: The DC power supply appears to be "twice converted", to save more energy and reduce heat build-up. PCs (home computers) change 60 Hz 120-volts to DC, then converts it to 33,000 Hz AC again, and then back to DC a second time. Results: Much smaller parts, and lot less power consumption. Techies know that's quite an invention done back in about 1980. | ||

| Used this box for over a year. Only stopped using it because we bought a new TV that has a digital HD tuner built in. Sets up easily and the remote works well (even powers on/off the TV). Signal feature is handy- one button access. The feature I miss the most is the channel guide that shows what program is showing on all (most) channels. Our new TV doesn\t do that! Picture quality was always excellent and only poor if reception was bad. Would be nice if the remote integrated more with the TV. All in all quite happy with this converter. | ||

| Summary: Insignia NS-DXA1: Works Well! | ||
| I purchased the Insignia NS-DXA1 Digital to Analog TV Tuner Converter Box for Regular TV Sets at Amazon.com. Total cost: approximately $35.00. The unit worked right out of the box (compared to Sansonic FT-300A!) The unit also had a display menu that would give me all of the HD (High Definition) and DS (Digital Standard) signals when scanned. Not only would the channel display, but the menu would also give you information about what you're watching. The only drawback that I have with this converter box was concerning specific channels, the picture (clear picture) would not fill my 27" screen completely. If the channel had more than one digital setting then you could switch to the second channel by pushing the "Guide & > " characters right on the remote control. The Insignia converter box scanned all of the channels right out of the box at my specific location.
As for sound, you might wish to turn up the volume on the unit's menu first before using your television remote or vice-versa. Doing this will allow you to use one remote for volume rather than using two for volume and sound. My only complaint--why I give it two stars, was concerning delivery of the product: The product was delivered in the same product box but also enclosed within a postal mail box. It was sent by United States Postal Service. (I thought products like this would be sent UPS.) When I purchased the product, I thought I was receiving a new product right out of the box. The Insignia product box seal had been broken. I clicked on the "new" link at the Amazon web site. This was not the case when I received it. This course of action led me to believe that the product had been tampered with or used. Nonetheless, now, I don't have to worry about June 12, 2009 digital deadline and at a pretty good cost-per-savings too. Let it come! |

| Summary: Insignia/Zenith/LG DTT901 DTV converter box review | ||
| Insignia/Zenith/LG DTT901 DTV converter box review
LG makes these converter boxes and sells them as either a Zenith DTT901 or a Insignia brand (at BestBuy). After much research at AVSForum re selection, here is a quick summary of my own experiences. Out of the half dozen or so READILY available boxes, this one is by far the best. Some other ones are prone to: locking up requiring a reset, sound problems, running very hot, may be impossible to add channels manually, and have difficulties setting the aspect ratio such that the program fills the screen best. These LG/Zenith/Insignia boxes have none of those problems, but make sure that you get one built after April '08 (there is a sticker on the side of the box with either ie "built May 2008" or something like 05A08). Setup is easy, sensitivity is great. With a set of rabbit ears I get stations from 70-90 miles away (see TVFool website for antenna directions and maps for your own area). Picture Zoom is settable for each channel, box can turn off the TV, and has an independent volume control. There are a couple of small items not quite up to par: Program guide is VERY simple, only current program and NEXT program are described, power cord is only 5ft long, if you set the converter on top of a large tv on a stand, it has a hard time reaching a floor level outlet. The signal strength meter (used for fine tuning the antenna position)has its own button on the remote, with a bar and amplitude varying beeps, but it lags the antenna movement by second or two, so you have to pause after moving the antenna each time to get a true signal level. Oh, and by the way, the picture quality (PQ)is excellent over the composite RCA outlet, and almost as excellent over the RF coax output. And yes, when turned off, the box will pass analog signal to the TV (APT), I thought that would be important, but all of my stations analog signals are duplicated on digital channels, and once you see a perfect quality signal it is very hard to watch a snowy picture. The DTT901 boxes are approved for the 40$ rebate coupon (but some websites may have problems redeeming them and you may have to try a BM (brick and mortar store) instead. |
