Choosing an HDTV Service

While it’s important to know the equipment end of the spectrum, these things vary within different localities so it is difficult to specify. However, it’s not difficult to find out; it’s simply a matter of calling the service providers in your area. It is clearly as important to know what type of programming, the quantity, and the quality that each service offers.
If cost is a major concern you’ll be happy to know that there are no monthly fees applied to antenna service. However, you must keep in mind that if you have an older analog television you will need to purchase an HDTV tuner. Also, keep in mind, that most HD signals will not reach consumers in underlying areas. However, in most cases, it will pick up primetime programming from most major networks such as NBC, ABC, and CBS.
Cable provides a much larger source of programming. If you’re a major sports buff you’ll be happy to know that cable also provides most sports events in HDTV. Most companies also provide a setup box or basic HD package at no charge however; this is not the case with all providers. You will also be charged a monthly fee for cable service, pricing varies. What is also a plus for cable providers is that they most often offer cable, phone, and internet service as a package for a discounted fee.
Satellite offers far more programming than cable services and their DVR’s are often much higher quality. However, with local programming you may still need to have an additional antenna. This service also requires purchase of a setup box.
