LG Moving Forward with Tru2Way Technology

LG is moving on to the next level when it comes to cable television. On July 28, the company announced that it has made deals with six cable providers in the United States, including Time Warner Cable, Cox, and Comcast, regarding tru2way technology.

Tru2way technology is a two-directional HD video standard that is a step ahead of the CableCARD technology. While the CableCARD technology does allow protected HDTV, it can only provide one-way output. This limits it to only normal television channels, which has prevented cable companies from officially supporting the format.

According to the deals LG made, the cable companies will provide support for tru2way technology on their networks. This will allow LG as well as other companies to provide interactive options on their HDTVs. This means companies can offer things such as video on demand as well as more advanced programming guides without having to use a separate device.

Although LG has not said when the technology will be available through the cable providers, the company plans to start offering televisions with built-in support sometime next year.
