Sony Offering Blu-Ray Option on Portable PCs
August 6, 2008 – 8:32 am,Sony has recently introduced a new portable PC that offers a number of attractive features. Most notably for those that want there PC to be at the center of their entertainment system, the new Vaio Z series includes an option for a Blu-ray drive. In addition, it will include options for Sprint Mobile Broadband and solid state drive.
With the help of the new laptop and its Blu-ray option, users can easily play high-definition video wherever they like and they do not need to hook up an external video source in order to do so.
In addition to offering Blu-ray technology on the laptop, the company says it plans to ultimately offer the option on its notebooks as well. No date has been established, however, for making this change.
Of course, Sony isn’t the first company to offer Blu-ray technology on its portable PCs. Therefore, this recent announcement has left many wondering why it has taken the company so long to make the change. After all, Blu-ray technology received its biggest push from Sony when it was included in the Playstation 3. More than likely, the delay was caused by the fact that Blu-ray technology simply costs so much for companies to produce and for consumers to buy. In fact, adding the option to the computers adds about $800 to the price tag. The SSD option, on the other hand, adds about $500 to the price.
